FOGBODY 001 — RITUAL


SF COMMUNITY ZINE





FOG BODY is a material record of our lives as artists in San Francisco. We collect photographs, art, writing, and records from our community — documenting anything that sustains us and keeps us anchored here. 

This first issue is titled RITUAL — what are the practices that hold us together? What gives shape to our lives in this city? How can we preserve them?   

Send us your morning coffee protocol, your beach fires, your pre-painting ritual, your bike route home. Each issue will build into an archive that traces not just what we make, but how and why we continue making it here.


WHO CAN CONTRIBUTE?
Open to all Bay Area residents. FOGBODY welcomes submissions from anyone with a practice that matters to them. You don't need to be a professional artist or writer. What matters is that you have something meaningful to share. We're building this archive together, and your experience is what makes it valuable.

WHAT TO SUBMIT:
  • Writing about your practices, traditions, or gatherings (up to 2000 words, .doc or .pdf)
  • Images of your rituals, spaces, or objects  (high-resolution JPG/TIFF, 300dpi)
  • Recipes that have become ceremony
  • Instructions for practices you've developed
  • Voice recordings with their transcription (MP3 format) - will be highlighted in our Substack series and website
  • Videos (will be displayed at our event/website)

This publication is meant to be an archive of how we engage through RITUAL. If you have an idea that  expands beyond what is suggested above, take a risk and submit your magic. 


IMPORTANT DETAILS:
  • Submit up to 3 pieces total
  • All images will be printed in black and white
  • Contributors receive one advance copy
  • Publication scheduled for August 2025
  • Launch celebration in San Francisco


TERMS & CONDITIONS:
Work submitted to FOGBODY remains yours — we do not claim the rights to your pieces, only the right to use them in FOGBODY issue 001, any future reprints of the magazine, and marketing and promotional material related to it. You're always free to publish them elsewhere, whenever wherever you want.

Work can be amended or withdrawn before MAY 31, 2025.

ABOUT:
FOGBODY is created by Breena Fain in San Francisco. Through workshops, rituals, and creative practice, she makes space for exploring life's transitions. Her background in hypnosis, meditation, and end-of-life care shapes how she approaches documenting collective experience.
